Alzheimer’s sufferer who was known as The Songaminute Man at Butlins wins a record deal at 80 after carpool karaoke video with his son is a hit

Videos of him and his son singing in the car were watched by millions online.
Now Alzheimer’s sufferer Ted McDermott is hoping to top the charts after landing a record deal at the age of 80.
The pensioner has been signed by Decca Records after his carpool karaoke was viewed millions of times on YouTube.
His son Simon, 40, found singing while they drove around Blackburn helped his father cope with his illness.

Ted, who was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s in 2013, has difficulty recognising his son but can remember the words to several songs.
Simon posted the footage of them singing to increase awareness for the Alzheimer’s Society and has raised £114,000 for the charity.

A Decca executive came across the videos, which were featured on MailOnline last month, and invited Ted – known as The Songaminute Man – to a recording session.
The former Butlins Redcoat has recorded You Make Me Feel So Young, famously sung by Frank Sinatra, with proceeds going to the Alzheimer’s Society and his family.

The track, to be released next Friday, was recorded in London and mixed at Abbey Road Studios.
Engelbert Humperdinck’s Quando Quando Quando, which Mr McDermott sings in his most popular video, is a B-side.
Simon said: This is a dream come true not only for dad, but for the entire family. There have been some really tough days in the last few years – especially for mum.
We threw an 80th birthday party last month and thought that would be his last time singing solo for people, so it’s amazing to think he now has a single coming out!
Decca’s Alexander Van Ingen said: Teddy’s voice is truly remarkable for any singer, let alone one 80 years of age. It’s a captivating sound, and full of character and experience.
